Miriam's Story

Miriam Nadler

During my college years as a very young believer, I was discipled by Arnold Fruchtenbaum, who is a Jewish believer in Jesus and today leads Ariel Ministries. For some reason, Arnold saw in me ministry potential, even though I was basically immature and untaught in the Scriptures. As he discipled me in aspects of the faith, like believing God to provide for my school bill as I worked my way through college, he also gave me an understanding and love for the Jewish people.

He encouraged me to write my papers for English and History on various aspects of Jewish life, especially the Holocaust. I became involved in Arnold’s prayer group for Israel, and the Lord put a burden on my heart to reach out to Jewish people.

Valuable Mentors

I spent four summers ministering in Brooklyn, New York with Hilda Koser, who was one of the great Jewish missionaries for Messiah. As I worked alongside her during the summer Bible school outreaches in Coney Island, NY, Miss Koser taught me how to minister to children. The Lord provided another mentor in my life: Ruth Wardell. She was a Gentile believer in Messiah who made a profound impact for the Lord among Jewish young people.

As a counselor at Camp Sar Shalom for Jewish teenagers, I watched Ruth interact with them. With her example and encouragement and by God’s grace, I was able to have a positive impact on the lives of a number of young women as a camp counselor and Bible teacher.

Ministry in The Big Apple
After graduating from Cedarville University with my degree in teaching, I knew that the Lord was calling me into Jewish ministry. I taught for a short time in public school to pay off my college bills then moved to New York City to work with Chosen People Ministries (CPM). I moved to New York City with great joy and anticipation because I knew that the Lord was leading me.

During my first six months in the city, I studied under Moishe Rosen, who later started Jews for Jesus. I immersed myself in Jewish culture, learning the Hebrew language and Israeli music. I began a small women’s Bible study. We met every Friday night on the Upper West Side in the building that Chosen People Ministries then owned. I would often cook a meal, where about a dozen ladies would gather to study and be discipled.

Up To Jerusalem
After three years of ministry in New York City, I had the privilege of moving to Israel, where I studied at Hebrew University in Jerusalem for a year and took some post graduate courses. I also studied Hebrew at an ulpan, which is an intensive language school. But that year in Israel turned out to be not merely a time to study but a time to minister.

Through one on one friendships and a coffee house outreach in Jerusalem that I helped to start, I had various opportunities to share my faith. After my year of study and outreach in Israel, I moved back to New York City.

Go West Young Woman!
Later the Lord led me to move to California to help start Jews for Jesus. When we began a music team called The Liberated Wailing Wall, I met a new believer named Sam Nadler. The Lord definitely brought us together in love and in ministry. For the first few years of our married lives we were on the road, crisscrossing the USA doing concerts for both evangelistic outreach and to raise support.

...and Back East
Eventually our touring days ended, and Sam and I moved to New York City. We began our outreach work there by opening the New York branch of Jews for Jesus. I started discipling women one on one and in small groups.

In 1979, God called Sam to provide leadership for Chosen People Ministries (CPM) between 1979 and 1996.  First, as CPM's NYC Director, Sam mobilized the staff to engage team-oriented outreach that was bold, creative, and culturally relevant. This served to enhance the ministry's local profile and evangelistic productivity.

Along with raising our two sons Josh and Matt, I served alongside with Sam, who was then  Northeast Regional Director for CPM. Convinced that The Great Commission was evangelism that produced discipled believers, we began personally planting as well as supervising the planting of several messianic congregations in the Northeast US.  As God's grace became evident, Sam was then asked to lead the worldwide organization in 1989.  As President of CPM, Sam brought new strategic intent to the global work. With The Great Commission as his objective, Sam launched the century-old Jewish ministry in a new strategic direction: the planting of messianic congregations among the Jewish people.

WMM is Born
When Sam and I began Word of Messiah Ministries in 1997 we wanted to concentrate on helping to build up congregations through practical discipleship materials.

I am eternally grateful to the Lord for the privilege to serve Him and His people. Like Ruth, I am a Gentile who has been grafted into the Olive Tree, and along with Ruth I declare, “Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.”

Presently Miriam leads Women's Ministries at Hope of Israel Congregation in Charlotte, NC,  Additionally Miriam has developed Messianic discipleship materials for women and recently published the book Sense & Sensibility...Honoring God with my life where she teaches how to live a life according to God’s calling as a woman that walks with her God. She also travels with Sam in the US and overseas, where she teaches at women’s conferences.
